In this package we will establish software engineering processes and methods for developing services which specifically support digital preservation. We will define new service interface standards for digital preservation which will support service dependency analysis and the gathering of contextual metadata in the future. We will establish software engineering / re-engineering processes and methods for developing / re-developing systems which are digitally preservable. We will undertake a comprehensive definition and requirements specification for digitally preserving an open source system; examine risk and economic profile for digital preservation of business processes in an open source system; provide support for digitally preserving an open source system; and produce effective pilot studies including appropriate test beds.
